Greetings Earthlings!
Greetings Earthling! (that's you)
What a crazy last few months! The first nine weeks is over and we are well on our way into the holiday season. The Pumpkin Patch Invaders of the Math Kind was an amazing time. Mrs. Parmer taught us about fractions, turns out they are as easy as pumpkin pie. Mrs. McCrory taught us about prior knowledge using a gigantic pumpkin donated by the Tate family. Mrs. Renolds taught us that our different estimates while stuffing scarecrow hands were because of our non-standard hand sizes. Mrs. Owens put back on her teacher hat to teach us a graphing lesson with candy from the Porter family. We even had time for candy corn measurement, read alouds, and the great pumpkin!
We’ve graphed everything from M and Ms to our favorite days of the week. We have identified the states of matter in a root beer float, and we even traveled the state of Georgia in the second grade hall way. It was super hard but we even made a shoe out of buckskin, animal tendon and a bone awl to better understand the way of life of Georgia’s first people. Okay, okay, it was really construction paper, yarn and a pencil so no animal was harmed during the making of this lesson. Maybe the most anticipated event of the school year was when we earned enough ink rewards for…wait for it…an electric pencil sharpener! I know the hand crank sharpener is a major part of your childhood memories but gee…we are so happy to have one that doesn’t give our crew members blisters!
We are looking forward to Thanksgiving Turkey Tales and The Twelve Days of Christmath that follow. Speaking of Thanksgiving…thank you for giving me those seventeen little angles to spend this second grade year with at Park.
Signing Off (that is goodbye!)
