Some days ago, it dawned on me that Christmas is over and um, come to think of it, Valentine's Day has come and gone too. You'd think I would note these passages seeing how I teach calendar skills but I just kept thinking I had time. Now I am thinking, I had time back in January. I even had time in February. Now it is nearly Spring Break and my darling second graders are showing the unmistakable signs of becoming third graders. They don't ask me what time it is anymore. They can tell time for themselves. They don't ask me how to spell words anymore. They get up quietly and get a dictionary or a quick speller. I don't have to tell them to read. I have to tell them to quit reading. They don't ask where to put papers or what tray to put a paper in and they don't ask me what they are supposed to do. They read directions (okay, okay-they skim over the directions and ask their neighbor but I own it anyway) So as winter slips away, I enjoyed a beautiful day that had nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with spring. A second grader in the spring is a beautiful thing! Much Love, Catherin
