Class Mission 2013: Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
I am happy to announce that crew members will embark on a planet saving mission this school year! Our class has partnered with Office Depot and Staples to recycle old cell phones, PDAs, I pods, MP3 players, printers and printer ink cartridges. Each item is worth cash for classroom supplies. Last year's crew earned $148.00 in supplies from Staples. Crew members will have the chance to gain real world experience with money as they add the amounts of each item we collect and put together an order for classroom supplies. How awesome is that?
It is my hope that this ongoing classroom project will help crew members to be aware of the impact we have on our planet and our pockets through the choices we make everyday. Speaking of the planet, we will also reuse some items during the year. Crew members will collect plastic bottle tops, Crystal Light containers and Swiffer Wetjet containers for classroom projects such as our end of the year review project that requires students to create a city from items they collect. Please encourage and support your child as he or she discovers more about the world and how to take care of it this school year. Bear with your children when they say "Wait! I can use that egg carton." They are only trying to complete the class mission.
